Use everything together and you can make any average low cost wood railing perform similar in appearance and life span to more expensive vinyl or composite rail systems.
If you love wood, but hate maintenance, you need Rail Shield™.
Each Rail Shield™ bottom rail profile fits snug over the 2×4. Cut each profile to exact length from the face to face of opposing 4×4 posts.
Mark the locations of each baluster with a marker or even a piece of masking tape using the template included with each kit.
Drill a 1/8″ pilot hole at each location to pierce the PVC profile. Place the alignment cones of the Snap’n Lock Baluster shoe (base) connector into the center groove.
Drive the screw into the 2×4 and you are ready to snap in your balusters.
Rail Shield™ also works similarly for all other leading brands of baluster connector though they do not have alignment cones.
The Rail Shield Handrail is easy to install.
Each handrail comes with stainless #8×1″ self drilling screws to easily cut through the PVC rail material and thread securely into the wood rail.
Just fit each bottom rail over the edge of the 2×4 rail, pre-drill screw locations and drive the screw through the shoe (base) connector and into the 2×4.
End Caps fit perfectly in the gap between the Handrail cover and the 2×4 rail.

I have built many decks in my time but this system has to be the best baluster system ever. The setup is easy and the installation is fool-proof. So far it has survived 2 Ottawa winters and it still looks like new. The only minor point was that each box contained balusters of uneven lengths. Some were 31 inches and some were 32 inches and the 32-inch ones had black painted ends. Was easily fixed by cutting them to 31 inches. I would definitely recommend this system.
